Previously, despite the carpet seller’s best efforts to steer the bloodthirsty Japanese in the wrong direction, Hansu (Lee Min-Ho) must witness the Korean fugitives being burned alive. Finally, Ryoichi is reunited with his family in the end. When Ryoichi notices Hansu standing alone, he invites him into the group hug, effectively integrating Hansu into his family. Hansu gazes at the sky while Ryoichi and his family sleep. He stands up to see the wreckage. As he recognises what he needs to do to survive, his countenance shifts from fear to sadness to stern resolve, with Ryoichi’s connection to the Yakuza being the first step.
